Russell Crowe’s 'State of Play'

‘State of Play’, a crime thriller film starring Russell Crowe in a pivotal role is being directed by Kevin Macdonald of the Oscar winning documentary ‘One Day in September’, ‘Touching the Void’ and ‘The Last King of Scotland’ fame. The screenplay was co-written by Matthew Michael Carnahan, Tony Gilroy and Billy Ray. Alex Heffes has composed the music for this film. The film is an adaptation of the critically acclaimed British television serial ‘State of Play’ by Paul Abbott, which first aired on BBC One in 2003.

The film is about a mysterious murder of a popular U.S. Congressman's research assistant. Russell Crowe is playing the role of Cal McCaffrey, a D.C. reporter who is determined to investigate the mystery. The flick is also features Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright Penn, Helen Mirren, and Jeff Daniels. Universal Pictures is distributing the film and is set to release on 17th April, 2009.
